Research Training Institute

The National Institute on Drug Abuse (NIDA) will convene the Research Training Institute (RTI) on April 18 -19, 2006 in Bethesda, MD.

We ask that you please nominate candidates(s) to participate in the RTI who will be eligible for partial travel awards to the meeting. The Institute has been designed for DESPR’s pre- and post-docs, mentored Ks, mentored research assistants on R01-type grants, and pre- and post-docs on T32 Training Center grants.

The Institute will provide early career scientists in substance abuse and HIV/AIDS research with the opportunity to develop new career skills, network with peers, and interact with key senior scientists from academia, NIDA, and the National Institutes of Health (NIH) scientific community. The Institute features dynamic plenary speakers, innovative skill development workshops, and poster presentations by early career scientists.

We ask that you please nominate one or more mentored candidates that might be interested in attending by completing the online nomination application.

Serving as the candidate’s supervisor, you will be instructed to complete a portion of the online registration form to include a brief statement about the student, his/her research, his/her areas of expertise, and a few remarks about how the student will benefit from a workshop of this nature. In addition, the candidate will need to provide a personal statement. We encourage each candidate to submit a poster presentation on their science for display at the Institute in April.

Completed applications must be submitted no later than February 28. Notification of acceptance status will be made by March 13.

Additionally, NIDA will be able to provide partial travel stipends to those that are accepted.
